Pictures and details of the all-new Volkswagen Golf Estate, following its world debut in Geneva

Volkswagen has unveiled its new Golf Estate at an exclusive preview event on the eve of the Geneva Motor Show.

It’s the most spacious and efficient Golf Estate ever, and weighs up to 105kg less than the car it replaces thanks to its lightweight new MQB platform.

The boot offers 100 litres more space than before, at 605 litres, and with the rear seats folded this increases to 1,620 litres – that’s 125 litres more than before.

The latest BlueMotion Estate promises 85.6mpg economy and 87g/km emissions from its 1.6-litre TDI diesel. Other engine options will include a 2.0 TDI, as well as 1.2 and 1.4 TSI petrols.

Prices will be revealed closer to the car’s UK launch in July.

A werr finished, handsome looking car. Way, way better that BMW or Ford or any of the French offer. It'll sell in droves and deserves to. I wonder though how VAG in the UK will handle it? Probably do their usual of stripping out the spec, then ramping up the prices with outrageously expensive options pricing! The product deserves better and better dealerships that at present.

This just looks like any other VW estate product from the last decade - or to put it another way - tedious.
