Best 7-seater cars for Motability 2025

The added space of a seven-seater is highly desirable for many Motability customers and it doesn’t have to cost the earth

Cars with seven seats are popular among families on the Motability scheme, not least because they’re often more spacious than smaller five-seat models, meaning they have extra room for wheelchairs and mobility equipment. Seven-seater cars tend to be either SUVs or MPVs and while SUVs offer easy access thanks to the higher ride height, MPVs usually have wide opening doors and lower ride height that’s better for wheelchairs.

The downside to a seven-seater, though, is that they’re often more expensive than smaller cars and that means they’re not always available with a low or no advance payment on Motability.

There are some, though, for which you need no down payment and others which have a small upfront payment but still offer great value for money – here are seven of the best seven seaters for Motability.

Dacia Jogger

  • Model: 1.0 TCe Essential
  • Advance payment: nil
  • PIP weekly cost: total mobility allowance
  • Car size: large estate
  • Fuel type: petrol
  • Gearbox: manual

The entry-level Dacia Jogger is the least expensive new seven-seater car in the UK and is widely admired for its no-nonsense approach to space, value for money and simple design. You can get the 1.0 TCe Essential on Motability with no advance payment and just your weekly mobility allowance, so it’s a really good value choice, yet it’s also quite good fun to drive, interestingly styled and spacious throughout. As a simple, practical Motability option for families it ticks a lot of boxes.

Citroen Berlingo/Vauxhall Combo Life/Peugeot Rifter

  • Model: multiple options
  • PIP weekly cost: total mobility allowance
  • Advance payment: from £495
  • Car size: MPV
  • Fuel type: electric
  • Gearbox: automatic

There’s very little to choose between these three electric MPVs from the Stellantis sister brands, so it all comes down to which brand you prefer, or maybe which dealer is nearest. Each has a standout feature – the Vauxhall with its adaptive headlights, the Peugeot with its digital cockpit and the Citroen with its advanced comfort seats, which makes it our favourite. All drive very well and have an EV range of up to 205 miles, as well as a tall cabin, sliding side doors and a huge boot.

Volkswagen Caddy Maxi

  • Model: Caddy Maxi 2.0 TDI Life 5dr [Tech Pack]
  • PIP weekly cost: total mobility allowance
  • Advance payment: £2,999
  • Car size: MPV
  • Fuel type: diesel
  • Gearbox: manual

The Volkswagen Caddy Maxi is a hugely versatile vehicle, with greater passenger space and a classier feel than the likes of the Citroen Berlingo and Vauxhall Combo Life, thanks to its Germanic, premium cabin feel. The 2.0 TDI engine is lively and offers great fuel economy, while the Tech Pack offers a suite of advanced driver assistance systems plus a quality infotainment set-up. Sliding rear doors allow easy access for those with mobility issues and the rearmost seats are a generous size.

Skoda Kodiaq

  • Model: Kodiaq 1.5 TSI e-TEC SE 5dr DSG [7 Seat]
  • PIP weekly cost: total mobility allowance
  • Advance payment: £3,399
  • Car size: SUV
  • Fuel type: petrol
  • Gearbox: automatic

Since the first model debuted in 2017, the Skoda Kodiaq has risen in stature to become one of the most respected SUVs on the market – classy, well-made and refined without forgetting Skoda’s value-for-money roots.

With an advance payment of around £3,400, Motability buyers can get the 1.5-litre petrol model with a sequential automatic DSG gearbox. This engine provides adequate power for most everyday needs, and the Kodiaq is also a practical seven-seat family car that has a decent loadbay even with all of its seats in use.

Ford Grand Tourneo Connect

  • Model: Grand Tourneo Connect 1.5 EcoBoost 115 Titanium Auto
  • PIP weekly cost: total mobility allowance
  • Advance payment: £3,495
  • Car size: MPV
  • Fuel type: petrol
  • Gearbox: automatic

Distinctively styled and modern inside and out, the Ford Grand Tourneo Connect hides its van origins well, yet when you need them they’re there – so there’s a tall roof, sliding doors, generous seats and legroom and a capacious cargo area. Yet dynamically, the Gran Tourneo is very car-like, with a great chassis, decent steering and good ride comfort. It shares some commonality with the Volkswagen Caddy Maxi Life, but Ford offers a more accessible petrol automatic model on Motability, with a slick seven-speed PowerShift dual-clutch automatic gearbox controlled via steering wheel paddles.
