Hindhead Tunnel
Set to open in the summer, this tunnel will finally complete the A3 route from London to Portsmouth
The UK’s longest road tunnel, at 1.2 miles, will open to traffic this summer after three years of construction. The twin bores at Hindhead, Surrey, will complete the A3 dual carriageway link between London and Portsmouth and alleviate one of the UK’s worst traffic blackspots.
The original road will be removed to restore the landscape around the Devil’s Punch Bowl, a National Trust-owned Site of Special Scientific Interest.
