New Ford Transit Custom van priced from £32,350

Ford’s popular mid-sized panel van, the Transit Custom, is now on sale

The new Ford Transit Custom will come with plug-in hybrid and full-electric power in the shape of the Transit Custom PHEV and E-Transit Custom, but Ford isn’t giving up on diesel. The diesel versions are on sale now with full pricing and specifications released.

With a starting price tag of £32,350 (excluding VAT), the new Transit Custom is £4,205 more expensive than the outgoing model. What it has in its favour is a stronger array of technology, improved efficiency and greater practicality.

The current Transit Custom range is made up of Leader, Trend and Limited, with Trail, Active and Sport variants arriving at a later date. The powertrain lineup is similarly restricted with a 2.0-litre diesel offered with either 109bhp or 136bhp. The lesser-powered diesel only gets a six-speed manual but the more powerful variant is also available with the option of an eight-speed automatic. Fuel economy for the new van stands at 39.7mpg for the 109bhp manual and 38.6mpg for the 136bhp engine fitted with the manual - that latter figure dropping to 36.2mpg when the automatic is added.

The new Transit Custom isn’t currently offered in high roof form, the largest model you can buy is the low roof H1 320 L2 which conjures up 81mm extra for loadspace length compared to the old model. The maximum available load volume is 6.8m3 and maximum payloads rise up to 1,284kg - 94kg more than before.

The entry-level Transit Custom Leader is still well equipped with automatic LED headlights and a whopping new 13-inch touchscreen with Ford’s latest Sync 4 infotainment system featuring Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity and a 5G embedded modem.

Step up to Trend - which cost £1,150 extra, and you’ll get body-coloured front and rear bumpers, automatic air conditioning, a reversing camera and a lockable glove box. Range-topping Limited starts from £36,080 and gets brighter load bay lights, Ford’s ‘Sensico’ faux leather on the gear lever and steering wheel and one-touch powered windows. 16-inch alloy wheels are standard on the Limited, too, with 17-inch rims an option.
