The next-generation CR-V is almost here – and these images show how it will look.

Honda unveiled this concept version of its 4x4 at the Orange County Auto Show in the US last week. You can see how the stretched body and near vertical hatchback rear will deliver more interior space than the current model. And leaked patent drawings of the final design prove that the production version will be virtually unchanged from the show car.

Despite the bigger cabin, Honda has confirmed that the CR-V will remain a five-seater, ending speculation that a third row of seats would be added. Bosses are remaining tight-lipped on engine details, but you can expect the same 2.0-litre petrol and 2.2-litre diesel units as in the current model, albeit with improved economy and lower emissions.

The production-ready CR-V will make its debut at the LA Auto Show in November, and will hit UK dealers late next year.
