Striking Lincoln MKC SUV previews a luxury version of the Ford Kuga for the US and Chinese markets

The Lincoln MKC concept, a luxury version of the Ford Kuga, has been unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show.

The Lincoln MKC concept is based closely on the US version of the Kuga - called the Escape - and is aimed at reinvigorating Ford’s luxury brand, which has seen sales slide in recent years.

Although only a concept, the MKC is believed to be very close to the model which will make production later this year.

The Kuga’s front and rear are heavily restyled on the MKC, with a split wing grille which is said to hark back to a Lincoln of the thirties, the Zephyr.

The MKC is also longer than the Kuga (4554mm vs 4523mm) and wider too (1,933mm rather than 1,839mm).

A panoramic roof and full-length centre console add some wow factor to the cabin.

Lincoln does not sell cars in the UK, but has targeted China as a key market for growth and will launch there in 2014. The MKC is not its only reworked Ford – the MKZ saloon is its version of the Mondeo.
