2026 Ford Mustang Dark Horse - best muscle cars
The Ford Mustang Dark Horse is a cracking muscle car swansong and a properly good driver’s car at heart

While on paper, the Ford Mustang Dark Horse doesn’t have too much to distinguish itself from the fantastic seventh-generation Mustang GT model on which it's based, it really does feel like it comes from a completely different gene pool.
Ford’s Mustang Dark Horse only has 7bhp more than the regular Mustang GT in European spec, boasting a total of 447bhp and a muscular 540Nm of torque - or 493bhp for those across the pond thanks to less-stringant emissions regulations. That power comes from a 5.0-litre Coyote V8.
Whatever way you look at it, the Dark Horse can go from 0-62 in 4.4 seconds with the 10-speed automatic gearbox or 5.2 seconds when fitted with a six-speed manual.
This might not sound outrageous, especially when compared with other muscle cars on this list, but what sets the Dark Horse apart is that it comes with Ford’s MagneRide dampers as standard, along with a beefed up suspension and gearbox setup and stickier Pirelli tyres.
Muscle cars of old weren’t known for their handling prowess, but the Mustang Dark Horse comes alive on a twisty track. Its handling is noticeably sharper than the regular Mustang’s, its exhaust sounds quite a lot naughtier and it feels like a great driver's car. It also looks the part, thanks to the squared-off jaw line and menacing styling upgrades.
So, how much will the Ford Mustang Dark Horse set you back? A shade under £71,000 which might sound like a lot, but in reality it’s only £12,000 more than the Mustang GT and worth every single penny. It really is one of the best modern muscle cars, and one of the best of all-time.
