The best-selling vans of 2014

We round up the UK’s best-selling vans of 2014 so far

Ford Transit on the road

The UK commercial vehicle market is having an excellent year with 330,283 total registrations so far. Vans are the main driving force behind this increase and, according to statistics from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, light commercial vehicle registrations have risen by 13.8 per cent over a year - an equivalent of 275,728 units.

Mike Hawes, SSMT chief executive said: “Growing van registrations supported the February vehicle market as middle and heavy-weight vans enjoyed healthy rises, reflecting improving economic activity.“

A broard range of van models contributed to this growth, but Ford, Vauxhall, Citroen and Peugeot were the best selling manufacturers, gaining the most from the UK’s buoyant van market.  Below are the top 5 best selling vans in 2014 so far.

Best-selling vans 2014

Ford Transit – 3,772 Registrations in 2014

Ford Transit red

Leading the top five is the Ford Transit. The old model was good but the new latest generation Transit (pictured above) is the best yet and each van in the generous model range comes highly specced. Refined engines, big load volumes and advanced safety features also count in its favour.

Ford Transit Custom – 2,320 registrations in 2014

Ford Transit Custom high-roof

Following closely in second place is the Ford Transit Custom. It was named our Van of the Year for 2014 and is also the first van to get an impressive five-star safety rating by Euro NCAP; unsurprising given its fantastic safety features.

Vauxhall Vivaro – 1,897 registrations in 2014

Vauxhall Vivaro

Next up is the Vauxhall Vivaro, which offers plenty of choice with six body styles to pick from. The driving position is comfortable and those with plenty of luggage to transport should be more than satisfied by its load capacity – one of the largest in its class. Vauxhall has a new Vivaro in the pipeline and will be hoping to build on this model’s sales success.

Citroen Berlingo – 1,749 registrations in 2014

The Citroen Berlingo’s versatility means it gets a well-deserved spot in the top five. It’s equipped with a generous range of technology, economical engines that can emit CO2 figures as low as 118g/km and a large range of bulkhead and seat configurations that should suit most situations.

Peugeot Partner – 1,678 registrations in 2014

Last in the top five is the Peugeot Partner, the Berlingo’s sister vehicle. This compact van marries a car-like driving experience with a higher payload capacity than bulkier rivals like the Fiat Doblo Cargo.
