New Skoda Enyaq Coupe iV electric SUV teased

Skoda’s upcoming Enyaq Coupe iV offers improved efficiency, while latest sketch reveals sportier looks to take on the Volkswagen ID.5

Skoda Enyaq Coupe

Skoda will release a more efficient, coupe-SUV version of its electric Enyaq iV on January 31st. Called the Enyaq Coupe iV, Skoda has revealed a sketch of the new car, which will adopt a sloping roofline and a sportier stance for improved aerodynamics and therefore 6-9 miles of extra range compared with the standard Enyaq iV.

From this drawing, the front end is shared with the regular Enyaq, but the front apron - carried over from the Enyaq iV Sportline - is more aggressive than usual, in line with the coupe’s more athletic approach.

The lower front grille is deeper and houses the front number plate, while the car’s side vents are more angular. The main grille is body coloured and features a horizontal LED running light that joins the headlights, although this isn’t the same Crystal Face illuminated grille as previously seen on the Enyaq iV.

The wheels are two-tone diamond-cut items similar to those fitted to the Enyaq iV 80 Sportline, although we expect Skoda to offer unique designs with the Enyaq Coupe iV production car.

The Coupe’s sharp body lines are shared with the standard SUV, although in the sketch there is a Founders Edition emblem visible on the front wing. The standard Enyaq iV was sold in Founders Edition guise as a limited-run model, and the Coupe version will follow suit.

The main talking point, however, is the sportier roof line and redesigned rear end of the Enyaq Coupe iV. The new look brings the car into line with coupe-SUV rivals such as the Volkswagen ID.5 and Tesla Model Y, albeit at the cost of practicality; the coupe variant will have a 570-litre boot, down from 585 litres in the regular Enyaq. However, the new model will be more efficient than its boxier sibling, with a lower drag coefficient enabling greater driving range from a full charge.

Under the skin, the Enyaq Coupe iV is based on the same MEB platform as Skoda’s first electric SUV, and the VW ID.5. We’ve already driven the coupe in prototype form, and the new car will adopt the same battery and motor options as the standard Enyaq iV, kicking off with a rear-wheel drive 60 model, which is powered by a 58kWh (usable) battery pack and offers 177bhp.

The 80 version, also rear-driven and equipped with a larger 77kWh (usable) battery, will sit above this and offers 201bhp. This model will offer the longest claimed range, with up to a nine-mile increase over the SUV variant possible, providing a total of around 340 miles on a charge.

The flagship 80x SportLine version will receive a dual-motor set-up for a combined 261bhp and 425Nm of torque, providing upwards of 312 miles of range.

Inside, the Enyaq Coupe iV will use the same cabin architecture as the SUV, with a 13-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 5.3-inch digital instrument panel. Every version will receive a panoramic glass roof with heat-reflecting glass, too.

The Enyaq Coupe iV is expected to carry a premium over the standard car when it launches, with prices from around £33,500.
