The more practical A3 sticks with the conservative but classy styling of the three-door, gaining little more than an extra set of doors and some discreet roof rails.
It's 35mm longer than the standard A3 and has 10 litres more boot space than the car it replaces.
Engine options will follow the recently released three-door, too. That means a choice of 1.4-litre TFSI and 1.8-litre TFSI turbocharged petrols and a 2.0-litre TDI diesel. A smaller, more economical 1.6-litre TDI will join the line-up at a later date.
The car goes on sale early next year and will cost £620 more than the standard A3.
