Electric car subsidy

Government offers £5000 subsidy on all electric vehicles

Electric car subsidy

Want a guaranteed £5,000 towards your next car?

That’s the deal being offered by the Government from
1 January if you buy an all-electric
or very low emission vehicle.

Under the scheme – announced
by the Labour Government but rubber-stamped by the Coalition – drivers
taking the plunge on the latest
generation of battery-powered cars get a 25 per cent discount off the price, up to the value of £5,000.

There’s a strict list of only nine models that currently qualify, but which includes the three electric vehicles that go on sale in January – the Peugeot iOn, Mitsubishi i-MiEV and Citroen C-Zero. The subsidy also stretches
to the forthcoming plug-in version
of the Toyota Prius and the Vauxhall Ampera. Both of these models are
due to arrive in showrooms in 2012.
