Vauxhall Ampera - Pictures

by: Auto Express team
8 Jun 2012
Go to: Vauxhall Ampera (2012-2015) review
  • The Vauxhall Ampera is a range-extending electric car and the UK sister to the Chevrolet Volt.

  • The Ampera uses a 148bhp electric powertrain, with a 1.4-litre petrol engine to top up the batteries if they get low.

  • Information for the driver is displayed on two 7-inch screens.

  • The Ampera is capable of about 50 miles on electric power alone, with up to 300 miles with a full tank of fuel for the petrol engine.

  • Despite the high-tech features, the Ampera isn't at all intimidating to drive.

  • The petrol generator and great cruising comfort make the Ampera viable to use for the occasional longer trip.

  • The 1.4-litre petrol generator is quiet except under heavy load.

  • The Ampera handles well but the weight of the batteries makes itself known in corners.

  • Vauxhall Ampera rear seats

The Vauxhall Ampera is a strict four-seater.

  • Vauxhall Ampera boot

The Ampera's boot isn't very large and the load cover is flimsy.
