Volvo V60 (2018-2023) - MPG, CO2 and running costs
Four-cylinder engines provide decent economy, with plug-in hybrids promising the best economy
Prices for the Volvo V60 range from around £41,000 to over £58,000, and you get a decent amount of kit for the money. However, Volvo does offer a variety of option packs and extras that can ramp up prices, so be careful when speccing up your car.
Diesel engines have now been removed from Volvo's range, but the V60 was offered for a time in D3 and D4 diesel guise. It boasted a claimed maximum economy of 50.4mpg and best CO2 emissions of 146g/km.
As for the V60s you can still buy new, there’s not much to separate the B3 and B4 mild-hybrid petrol set-ups which deliver figures (on the combined cycle) of up to 45.6mpg and 44.8mpg. The taller, heavy Cross Country model comes with a more powerful B5 mild-hybrid engine and all-wheel drive, with Volvo claiming this version will reach 38.2mpg at best. CO2 emissions range from 142g/km to 162g/km for these three versions.
The most powerful cars in the V60 line-up are also the most efficient, as the T6 and T8 manage to return impressive figures thanks to their plug-in hybrid powertrains.
Official fuel economy figures for both are 353.1mpg, but these are best taken with a pinch of salt – getting close to these will require constant recharging of the batteries and a light right foot. In our test – incorporating a combination of backroad and urban driving – the V60 T8 we drove returned an average of 80mpg, which still represents efficient driving. CO2 figures for the T6 and T8 are 18g/km.
Insurance groups
Volvo's focus on safety helps the V60 keep insurance groups low. The Swedish estate car falls into groups 24 to 32, with the exact rating depending on your chosen specification. The V60's ratings are slightly lower than its rivals such as the BMW 3 Series Touring, which sits in insurance 29 to 39 groups.

Depreciation
The Volvo V60 is expected to hold onto between 47 and 59 of its value after three years and 36,000 miles of ownership, with the best performer being the plug-in hybrid V60 Recharge.
