Jordan Katsianis

News editor at Auto Express, Jordan has years of experience across all corners of the automotive industry – first in design, evo magazine and now the UK’s highest-selling weekly car magazine. With connections into the very heart of the car industry, and plenty of insider knowledge that goes with it, it’s his job to make sure Auto Express is always on the cutting edge of automotive news. Jordan also presents on our YouTube channel, where together with his articles on web and in print forms a critical part of Auto Express’ voice and, by extension, the readership’s too.

Jordan says…

“It’s a tumultuous time in the car industry with challenges in every direction. The pressure to reduce carbon emissions through electrification is one, but how to create the sort of passion and following that the last 100 years without their character-inducing combustion engines is perhaps even more challenging. I relish the opportunity to see what the best and brightest minds in the business have in store.”

Jordan Katsianis’ main areas of expertise:

  • Car design
  • Sustainability
  • Driving dynamics
  • Automotive engineering
  • Performance testing

Jordan Katsianis Q&A

Q: What was your first car?

A: "I was given very clear boundaries from my dad when time came to buy my first car: no turbos, no more than four cylinders, no hot hatchbacks. So I went out and purchased the most powerful car I could find according to those rules… A 181bhp 2003 Honda Accord. This was promptly replaced by a flat six-powered Subaru Legacy 3.0R Spec-B (manual) estate."

Q: What is your dream car?

A: "The Lexus LFA as an example of momentous engineering skill, a manual Ferrari 612 Scaglietti as the ultimate form of automotive sophistication, and a Maserati Quattroporte IV (the Gandini one) as my weird crush"

Q: If you could change one thing about cars, driving or the car industry today what would it be?

A: "Unfortunately, alongside the car industry’s highs are far too many lows. Most manufacturers seem to be heading in the wrong direction. Electrification has created many cross-roads, and few are making the right choices. Many new cars are too heavy, too ‘styled’, and too compromised. This should be a period of great innovation, but few have so far achieved it.

How would I change things? Put faith in out-of-the-box thinkers, both engineering and designers, to execute cars drawn from inspiration rather than customer clinics. Be an iPhone in a world of Nokias – follow a path of true innovation, rather than designing for a public that don’t know what they want…  "

I studied car design and this is why the Ferrari Luce just doesn’t look right

Let’s cut through the outrage and just focus on the car for a second. This is the right movement, but the wrong canvas.
