Nissan Leaf

Nissan Leaf - front
  • Price from: £32,600
  • Fuel Type: electric
  • CO2/BiK band: 0g/km/4%

The original Nissan Leaf was among the very first electric cars on the market more than 15 years ago, but the latest car has transformed into one of the very best mainstream EVs, such that we voted it Auto Express Car of the Year 2026. The reason? It’s simply an excellent electric family car with a useful range and is very easy to live with.

That doesn’t change if you’re ordering one as a company car either. Competitive pricing will keep your tax burden low and with up to 386 miles on a charge it’s far from being limited to local driving. In fact, it feels well suited to longer trips thanks to its smooth ride and simple, airy cabin design, while the Google-based infotainment is straightforward to use.

Skoda Elroq

Skoda Elroq - front
  • Price from: £34,000
  • Fuel Type: electric
  • CO2/BiK band: 0g/km/4%

As a former Auto Express Car of the Year the Skoda Elroq is clearly one of the best cars in its class. Essentially a smaller Enyaq it has most of that car’s talents in a more affordable package, and actually makes us question whether you really need the larger car, given it doesn’t sacrifice much in terms of practicality or performance. That line of questioning is equally valid for company buyers, who’ll still save a little on BIK rates with the less expensive car.

There’s nothing special about its general concept or appearance - this is squarely a middle-of-the-road family crossover. But it’s one with brisk performance (or genuinely quick in the case of the 335bhp vRS with its 5.4-second 0-62mph time), a well-judged ride and handling tradeoff, and range figures that are more than competitive at this price, at up to 355 miles. The cabin design’s pretty easy to get on with too.

“The Elroq offers decent driving range, impressive performance, and all of the practical touches that Skoda is famous for, giving justification for us to give this outstanding electric car the nod over its rivals.”Ellis Hyde, news reporter

Kia EV3

Kia EV3 - front tracking
  • Price from: £33,100
  • Fuel Type: electric
  • CO2/BiK band: 0g/km/4%

The Kia EV3 is one of the most impressive electric cars on the roads. In fact, we named it our 2025 Small Company Car of the Year. This car is basically the Kia EV9 condensed into a smaller, more affordable yet equally likeable package – and it’s already become rather popular with company users and private buyers.

Take your pick from its talents: boxy yet funky styling, a smart and well equipped cabin, plenty of space, a range of up to 375 miles, and a long list of safety features. Is it exciting to drive? Not especially, but it does everything else so well that we don’t really mind.

“Throttle response is well judged, making the EV3 feel lively without being too jumpy or hyperactive. A nice, linear shove gets Kia’s newcomer up to the national speed limit with ease, but we’d appreciate a little more urgency when attempting overtakes.”  - Alex Ingram, contributor

Tesla Model 3

Tesla Model 3 - front tracking
  • Price from: £38,000
  • Fuel Type: electric
  • CO2/BiK band: 0g/km/4%

The Tesla Model 3 is a stalwart of the electric executive car world, and this long-serving EV has been kept feeling fresh thanks to a number of online tech updates and revisions to its powertrain. The uber-minimalist interior has aged pretty well, and company car taxation rules have continued to move the goalposts in this Tesla’s favour.

This is a saloon that can crack 0-62mph in less than six seconds even in its cheapest form, claims a range of 323 miles between charges (some versions do more, but breach our £40k budget) and refill at up to 170kW (pay more and other models can take 250kW). Yet it’ll cost a higher-rate taxpayer only £40 a month in BiK. It may not have a traditional executive badge, but it’s a stellar choice regardless.

“The suspension feels firm with a little bit of patter at low speeds, but it still provides better damping than the BYD SealHyundai Ioniq 6, and Polestar 2, and the Model 3 manages to deal well with larger lumps and bumps.”Ellis Hyde, news reporter

If you’re thinking the Kia PV5 looks rather different to our other £30k-£40k picks then you’d be right. It’s rather different to everything else on the road, in styling terms at least - probably the closest it gets to another passenger vehicle is the more expensive Volkswagen ID.Buzz. That Kia can offer a surprisingly characterful electric MPV at this price is a credit to the company - and the PV5 is more or less unmatched as a good-value people-mover.

In Long Range form the PV5 can cover a claimed 256 miles. You’ll probably get a little less in real-world driving, and overall that figure is no more impressive than those of a lot of superminis, but it’s also not bad for a large box-shaped object with a relatively modest (71kWh) battery pack. One that can seat up to seven people too, with the right option boxes ticked. It’s not as flexible as some MPVs of old but you won’t find many EVs that beat the PV5’s utility.

“Kia’s clean-sheet design has also been turned into an impressive electric family car with futuristic looks, acres of space, and a driving experience that’s more car-like than any other van-derived MPV.”Dean Gibson, senior test editor.
