Digital radio has so far struggled to make the same impression in the car market as it has on home listening. But that was before the arrival of the Pure Highway, our Product of the Year 2008. The neat standalone unit and internal aerial are fixed to the windscreen, while power is supplied from the car’s 12V socket. DAB radio is then pumped through the sound system, connecting by an auxiliary socket or the built-in FM transmitter. During our test, it was impressive, providing a clear, high-quality sound. What’s more, the Highway automatically searches for empty wavelengths and, on DAB radio, you can rewind programmes. Tunes from your MP3 player can be aired, too.
