Nurburgring 24-hours 2010 is go!

The action in Germany has begun, with the start of the 2010 Nurburgring 24-hour race. And Auto Express is there, LIVE!

And they’re off! At 14:00GMT, the flag dropped and the leaders began the Nurburgring 24-hour race 2010. After dominating qualifying, the front running Audi R8 LMS cars held the first four places as the cars crossed the start line for the first time.

But despite the R8s stealing a march in qualifying, the Manthey Porsche 911, which has dominated the race over the past two years, soon barged its way into the lead. It’s not just at the front of the field that battle rages: VW’s Sciroccos are out for more glory, while the PlayStation-backed Lexus ISF, which road tester Owen Mildenhall is sharing, is up against the Aston Martin Rapide in the SP8 class.

The race is the ultimate endurance challenge for the drivers, teams and cars. And as the legendary track’s reputation goes from strength to strength, it’s no surprise that so many manufacturers are represented in an official capacity: Porsche, Audi, BMW, Aston Martin, Ford, Lexus, Subaru, Nissan and Peugeot are all present and correct.

As to who will come out on top when the flag drops in a day’s time!
