It’s small, but the Volkswagen Up is more sophisticated than its proportions suggest. On the road it’s good fun to drive and is not be overwhelmed by the occasional motorway jaunt.

Volkswagen updated the Up back in 2016, allowing for even more customisation and a classier appearance – including the switch to smartphone based sat-nav rather than a dedicated unit. That being said, the updated gearbox did reduce performance in some models without any real gain in economy.
