Le Mans might be the most famous 24-hour race, but when it comes to the most demanding track, the Nurburgring Nordschleife’s 12.9-miles beats its legendary French counterpart hands down.

The race is attended by around 200,000 fanatical fans who camp in the woods next to the track. And Auto Express will be among those cheering on the 220 cars which will take the rolling start on 15th May.

Each year, the race becomes more and more important, as the cars that can be entered are more relevant to road car drivers than at any other race of this profile. This year, we aim to bring you a flavour of what makes it unique.

Our very own senior road tester Owen Mildenhall will be competing too, at the wheel of a near-standard Lexus ISF he will share with SuperGT driver Hideshi Matsuda, Australian journalist Peter Lyon, and Gran Turismo game creator Kazunori Yamauchi.

We’ve also been granted access to all the major manufacturers, including the Audi teams bidding to win the event that has been dominated by Porsche in recent years. Other highlights include the Aston Martin Rapide which has been entered by the firm’s CEO Dr Ulrich Bez. This page will be updated throughout the race, with all the stories, pictures and video as the event unfolds.
