Garmin won our test of portable sat-navs, and its smartphone app isn’t bad, either. Trouble is, it’s expensive and doesn’t offer a lot for the money. It performs just as well as an entry-level Garmin portable device, navigating from point to point with ease, but given the price of a cheap dedicated unit, you could be better just buying a basic nav.
