Clarion MAP790 multimedia unit

Price: £279

MAP790

A stereo, mobile phone hands-free kit and sat-nav all in one – that’s the latest system from multimedia giant Clarion.

The MAP790 is the size of any other navigation unit, and clamps to your dash with the supplied suction cup, similar to a portable system. There’s also a 4.3-inch touchscreen – but it provides much more than just navigation.

Built-in Bluetooth connectivity lets you make calls on the move safely and legally.

Plus, as you’d expect from Clarion, music playback is a key feature. You can relay tunes from your phone wirelessly via Bluetooth, or plug a music filled card into the SD card slot – this supports up to 8GB of memory.

There’s also a mini-USB input, so you can connect your iPod, too. On top of all this, route-finding is easy.

The Clarion has maps for 44 countries, displayed in clear 360-degree 3D.

You see the contours of your route, and the comprehensive points of interest stand out well.

A lane indicator feature and spoken street names are included, as is detailed camera and speed limit info, plus a built-in RDS-TMC tuner to get traffic alerts.
