Peugeot on pole

Le Mans grid shapes up as Bourdais puts 908 at the front of the grid.

It’s a Peugeot lock out! The French firm has dominated qualifying for this year’s Le Mans. The firm’s 908 HDIs occupy the first four places on the grid, led by the car driven by Le Mans-born driver Sebastian Bourdais.

He set a blistering lap of 3 minutes 19.711 seconds on Wednesday night which was never bettered. Qualifying specialist Stephane Sarazzin who has taken pole position for the last three years failed to make it four in a row as his Peugeot was given to Frenchman Nicolas Minassian for the final stint, coming in third.

Brit ace Anthony Davidson’s Peugeot is second on the grid, with the privateer ORECA 908 taking fourth.

The best of the Audis was fifth, with Frenchman Romain Dumas at the wheel, with Scot Allan McNish bringing his R15+ home in sixth. The best of the Astons came home 8th and 9th.

Danny Watts and Strakka Racing took the LMP2 class pole, with Tomas Enge's best lap from Wednesday being enough to hold on to the GT1 top spot. Gianmaria Bruni's lap on Wednesday in the #82 Risi Competizione Ferrari was unbeaten in GT2.
