Practicality and a seven-year warranty help put the Kia Rio supermini into our top 10
The latest Rio delivers more space and versatility than ever, while the attraction of Kia's seven-year warranty is always present. The 1.4-litre four-cylinder petrol isn't the most modern unit, but it has been paired with Kia's four-speed auto in a number of cars now, so it should prove reliable and thus the warranty is never troubled by it.
The 98bhp unit is offered in '2' and '3' trims, which are generously equipped, and adding the auto box only adds around £650 to the list price. The big penalty is in terms of economy and emissions, as the auto manages only 46.3mpg, compared to 56.5mpg for the stop-start equipped manual.
On the road, the Rio is more about safe and secure driving than thrills, and the four-speed auto is well suited to the Rio's more sedate character than some of its racier class rivals.
