Peugeot 308 SW - Best estate cars

When it comes to compact estates, the 308 SW is ahead of the pack with its classy cabin and efficient engines

The current 308 SW presents a much better buy than the model it replaces, not least because of the new, elegant styling. Add to this the super economical diesel engines and big boot, and the 308 SW is an attractive proposition for a lot of motorists.

That being said, motorists looking for a practical estate which is also a riot to drive may want to look elsewhere as the ride is over-soft and the handling is not as engaging as others – but then again, the primary purpose of an estate is not to be a track day hero.

Peugeot 308 SW review

Based on the 308 hatchback, the SW gets treated to a longer rear end and extended wheelbase, helping create one of the most spacious cabins in the class. The pick of the petrol engines is the new 1.2-litre e-THP 130, a three-cylinder unit which produces an impressive 128bhp and goes a long way to promoting downsizing technology.

One final note, drivers hoping the 308 SW is available as seven-seater, like the last car, will be disappointed as it solely available with five seats this time round.
