The Brivido is a design study that uses VW hybrid technology to rocket from 0-62mph in 5.8 seconds and on to 171mph. The four-seater features a 350bhp V6 engine mated to an eight-speed transmission, while the hi-tech cabin comes with an iPad dock.
On sale: Late 2012

The next-generation CR-V is lighter, lower and shorter than the model it replaces – yet Honda has promised more cabin space, as well as greater refinement. UK buyers will have the choice of a new 1.6-litre petrol engine or updated 2.0-litre petrol and 2.2-litre diesels.
On sale: 2014
Price: £75,000
The NSX concept previews the long-awaited successor to the NSX supercar from the nineties – a model that Ayrton Senna helped to develop. As with the original, the new NSX uses the most up-to-date technology, with a hybrid set-up that twins a 3.6-litre V6 at the back to a pair of electric motors at the front for a total of 400bhp. This arrangement gives it the agility of a mid-engined supercar, with all the benefits of four-wheel drive – pitching it directly at the superb Audi R8.
On sale: Late 2012
Price: £10,000 (est)
Supermini joins the new i30 and Veloster as part of Hyundai’s eight-model attack in 2012. The revised i20 is 55mm longer and gets more angular styling. The engine range is led by a new ultra-efficient 74bhp 1.1-litre diesel that emits only 84g/km of CO2.

Price: £14,495
The new Hyundai i30 is longer, wider and lower than its predecessor and looks much sharper thanks to its ‘fluidic motion’ styling. It’s made a big leap in interior quality, too, with soft-touch plastics, gloss black trim and brushed silver inserts. The car is also more efficient, with two petrol and three diesel engines to choose from. The best-performing 1.4-litre diesel offers 76.3mpg and 97g/km. LEDs and Bluetooth are standard, even though the i30 has a starting price of only £14,495.

On sale: June
Price: £15,495
The current i30 is Hyundai’s best seller in the UK, and the new model is looking to cement that position. As with the hatch, the i30 Tourer gets bold new styling, and there’s also a new six-speed manual gearbox and a six-speed automatic. Safety gear includes six airbags.
Hyundai i-oniq
On sale: N/A
Price: £30,000 (est)
The i-oniq previews Hyundai’s design direction as it bids to move upmarket. The four-seat coupé features gullwing doors and combines a 107bhp electric motor with a 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine to give a 440-mile total range. It can travel 12 miles on electric power alone.
On sale: Late 2012
Price: £20,000 (est)
While the Veloster Turbo won’t worry the VW Golf GTI for acceleration, it may for kerbside appeal. It sits lower on unique 18-inch alloys, with a new grille and LEDs. A twin-scroll turbo boosts power from 138bhp to 184bhp, and slices the 0-62mph time by 1.3 seconds to 8.4 seconds.

Infiniti Emerg-E
On sale: 2014
Price: £150,000
The Infiniti Emerg-E is a 402bhp electric range-extending sports car that can do 0-62mph in four seconds while emitting only 55g/km of CO2. It’s based on the Lotus Evora, and its drivetrain has been developed at Nissan’s European engineering centre in Cranfield, Bedfordshire. Carbon fibre bodywork keeps the Emerg-E’s weight down to 1,600kg and helps channel cooling air to the battery packs. Charge it up, and you can travel 30 miles on electric power – but when the batteries run low, a 47bhp 1.0-litre Lotus engine kicks in to charge them up and extend the range to 300 miles on a tank of fuel.
On sale: September
Price: £33,000 (est)
Jaguar’s aggressive range expansion has begun with the XF Sportbrake, the most practical model it’s ever produced. This is still a true Jaguar, though. There’s the same plush carpeting throughout, even in the 1,675-litre load area (which is the same size as in a BMW 5 Series Touring). There’s also 48mm of extra headroom in the rear, thanks to the longer and higher roof, while the rest of the cabin is the same as the XF saloon’s. The big talking point on the exterior are the blacked-out C-pillars, which mimic the flagship XJ and give the impression of a wraparound rear windscreen. There are three diesel engines offered: 161bhp and 190bhp 2.2-litre four-cylinders, plus a 271bhp 3.0-litre V6.
