Ferrari 458 Italia

Ferrari 458 Italia
It’s the most desirable Ferrari in years and, as Auto Express found out in Issue 1,089, it is one of the most exciting to drive, too. Boasting an all-new 4.5-litre V8, the 458 Italia produces 562bhp at 9,000rpm and 540Nm of torque at 6,000rpm. Claimed performance is staggering, with 0-62mph achieved in
3.4 seconds, 0-124mph in 10.4 seconds (that’s 0.6 seconds faster than the 599) and a top speed of more than 202mph.

The wind tunnel-honed body is both functional and handsome. Rather than wearing traditional wings, the Italia has a clean and flowing shape which makes use of active aerodynamics to produce more than 360kg of downforce at 200mph. Behind the wheel, the car has ditched the old Formula One-derived paddleshift gearbox in favour of a seven-speed dual-clutch set-up. This box is much smoother, and makes the newcomer more manoeuvrable around town.
Handling is equally impressive, and the 458 Italia offers plenty of steering feedback and amazing grip. The traction control system allows drivers to choose between ‘normal’ and ‘race’ modes, or even turn it off altogether.

Complete with a comfortable ride and solidly built cabin, the Ferrari is a great all-rounder – and a very tempting prospect, despite its £160,000 price tag.
